Hornets heading to South State

The East Central Lady Hornet soccer team traveled to Pearl this morning to face-off against the Pearl Pirates in round two of the playoffs.
The Hornets won the game with a score of 2-1, and will advance to the South State tournament game, to be held Tuesday evening.

Afternoon fire breaks out at ECMS

2:27 p.m.
A fire broke out at East Central Middle School (ECMS) this afternoon in the Life Skills classroom of the main hallway. The students usually in that room were on a field trip, so the classroom was empty when the fire started.
A parent volunteer working in the building noticed the fire and immediately notified faculty. The school was evacuated immediately and no injuries are reported.
Preliminary reports indicate the fire was electrical, starting in a dryer plug. ECMS Principal R.L. Watson said once they flipped the breaker, the fire pretty much went out on its own, even before the fire department arrived.
